Under 16 Beitzel Shield 2017 match reports

Match 1 vs DVCA at Beaumaris Reserve

MPCA 10/84 lost to DVCA 2/93

This match was won at the coin toss where DVCA won and bowled on a wet pitch that did everything unusual for the first couple of hours – the ball popped and jumped everywhere and we couldn’t handle it – the only batsman to handle the conditions was Blake Eklund who went in at #3 and was last man out and made 31. Bailey got 10 and nobody else , including extras , made double figures.  When we bowled after lunch , thanks to Linda Skelly for her wonderful tucker , the pitch had settled down but still we served up a lot of rubbish instead of bowling full and tight so we were poleaxed !!!

Match 2 vs North West Metro CA at lovely Moonee Ponds but not a gladdie in sight.

MPCA 5/229 def. NWMCA 10/147

Batting first on a hard , dry wicket we were quickly into stride – Bailey and Luke opened and when Luke went for a great 61 we were 1/111 off 29 overs. Blake joined Bailey and they set about taking down the NWM bowlers. Blake made 27 before getting caught so we were 2/172 and Bailey on 71. Tom Panich went in and tried to hit everything not into MV race course but to the other side of the city but alas fell for 6 , Jayden now in and trying to push it along , Bailey hit a 4 and a 2 to bring up his ton and retired on 101 , then we lost another couple to finish on 5/229 which was a good score on a good wicket and a ground full of value for shots.

NWMCA served up a magnificent lunch and I have to say that if you went away hungry you are very hard to please.

We opened our bowling with 6 overs each from Max Horell and Rueben Higgins and after 12 overs NWM were 3/36 and behind the eight ball – would have been more if we could catch as poor old Maxie had 3 chances spilt off his bowling. NWM got to 4/79 then 5/86 as Connor Stevenson struck with 2 wickets. They then got to 6/86 when Charlie Dixon got an lbw then Blake Eklund chipped in with a stumping by Paddy Wilson so now 7/114 and looking down the barrel. They had a partnership before Lachie Yeoman got 2 in two balls ( couldn’t complete the hattrick ) and then Tom threw down the stumps from mid off to have them all out for 147. A good win to get on the board BUT at around 7 or 8 dropped catches and 2 missed run-outs we have a lot of work to do in sparking up our fielding. Our bowlers , to their credit , created a lot of chances so they did their job well but we really have to up our concentration in the field and take those chances.

Bailey White  101 not out  ( 1 x 6 , 15 x 4 , 4 x 2 and 27 singles ) , Luke Janssen 61 , Blake Eklund 27

Lachie Yeoman 2-1-2/3 , Connor Stevenson 6-2-2/12 , Blake Eklund 3-0-1/13 , Charlie Dixon 4-1-1/14 , Rueben Higgins 6-1-1/21 and Max Horell 7.3-0-1/20 ( should have been 4/for ) and Paddy Wilson 2 catches and a stumping in a fine display behind the stumps.
